President's Message

Don’t lay too much ‘Concrete’

This was one analogy Gus Balbontin used throughout his presentation at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Concrete became a solid theme throughout each message and refers to the routine, systems or comfort we unknowingly introduce into our lives daily. From driving to work the same way every day, to using the same coffee mug, Gus described routine as the killer of adaptability.

As businesses, we need to be able to adapt and change constantly as whatever products or services we use are only as good as today. If we do not adapt, change and be better, someone else will and we will fall behind.

Don’t be mistaken though, some stability is necessary as long as it is complimented by instability.

Each of these inspiring messages and so many more were delivered with passion and Gus had the room in stitches! I wish it were possible for me to share every one of his golden quotes.

Bringing Gus Balbontin to Newcastle was a dream of Past President Clare Ferguson after seeing him on stage previously. Without Clare and Monica Walmsley, this event would not have been possible. Thank you for your sponsorship Monica Clare Recruitment.

We are also grateful for the continued contribution from the clubs’ supporters – Newcastle Herald, oOh! Media, and Hunter Headline.

Sponsorship of the lucky door prizes thanks to Newcastle Office Interiors, Premier Team Building, Bespoke Technology, Wrapped to you, Hunter Headline and oOh! Media for their donations. The prizes are generously increasing and any person that attends can be a winner – just make sure you bring your business card for the draw!

Matthews Jewellers $100 voucher was another popular prize once again. Thank you for your continued support. Vouchers are drawn at each luncheon and can be won by anyone who is a member and attending the lunch. You can become a member HERE.

Event photos are already available on our Facebook Page thanks to Martin Sully. Please visit Snapper Studio to check out his work. June Luncheon

We look forward to seeing you at our June event to hear from Stephen Crowe – Executive Manager Corporate Affairs, Newcastle Airport.

Stephen’s career spans a number of diverse industries, including senior roles in professional sport, local government and as a Director in a leading creative agency.

In his current position, Stephen played a key role in delivering a host of new routes to the region and the attraction of $60M+ in government funding for an upgraded runway.

Newcastle Airport, having survived its most difficult year in 2020, has emerged with bold aspirations for the future of the region. Not content with matching its pre-COVID results, the organisation aims to help transform Newcastle to a global city and lift the sights of the entire region.

Stephen will share details of the Airport’s struggles and aspirations and how his previous experiences have prepared him for the challenge.

Our luncheons would not be possible without the support of local businesses. Thank you, PRD, for your sponsorship of our June event.
