Join us for an inspiring panel style event where we will hear from a diverse line up of Novocastrian business owners who have made significant contributions within their respective industries and are shaping the future for generations to come.

This event has been designed to not only celebrate local trailblazers who are shaping the business landscape, but to also hear the stories of how they have made it through adversity and overcome challenges to where they are today.

Meet our speakers 

Belinda MacDougall

Belinda is the founder and Director of Cranky health –best known for the #1 selling product in the weight loss space The Man Shake. She built her company along-side husband and co founder Adam MacDougall in 2013 out of their garage in Merewether, Newcastle, and within 5 years it became the largest Australian owned health food company in Australia.

Over the past 10 years the company has shaken up the weight loss industry in Australia by raising the bar around product quality and actually making healthy healthy.

In 2022, the MacDougall’s sold a majority stake in their company to Australian investment giant, Pacific Equity Partners at a record valuation of over half a billion dollars, with the company now well on its way to becoming what is referred to in the business world as a unicorn company.

Later that year Adam and Belinda MacDougall donated a % of their wealth to establish The MacDougall foundation. The foundation provides funds that create a direct impact on the lives and welfare of those in need and companies working tirelessly to make this happen.

The MacDougall Foundation is passionate about the welfare of children, mental health, and those that have been left behind.

The goal of the foundation is to assist in making real change to enrich lives and provide help and hope in hard times.

Belinda now spends most of her time with her young children Harlow and Mila, she is CEO of her foundation which is her passion, and she also remains on the board of Cranky Health as a major shareholder.

 

Blake Bennett

With agency experience in Melbourne and Sydney under his belt, Blake co-founded Zimple Digital with his brother 12 years ago with a mindset that digital and business would become further integrated as technology rapidly changed. Now with 24 staff based in Newcastle, Zimple has won multiple awards including Website of the Year and Digital Agency of the Year. Zimple work with local and national brands on their digital footprint,  the likes of McDonald Jones Homes, Yamaha, MAAS Group, Port Waratah Coal, SteelX and AMP Control.

For his work in growing Zimple to the iconic brand that it is today, Blake was also a finalist in the NSW Business Awards Young Entrepreneur of the Year, winning the category locally.

Always the entrepreneur at heart, Blake also founded Grocerize, a web based application that compares Woolworths and Coles grocery prices which allows shoppers to plan and save on their grocery bill weekly. With the rising cost of living, Grocerize has grown in popularity and been up in lights with Blake featuring on the likes of the Today Show, 7 News. Triple M and in many publications nationwide promoting the app.

It is evident that Blakes loves looking at data and aligning digital with real world business outcomes! He has also served on local boards including Hunter Young Professionals board most recently.

 

Brett Watson 

Brett Watson is the dynamic CEO of both HIVIS Group and Hyperion Technology, known for his innovative leadership and strategic acumen. With over 40 years of experience in business development and technology management, Brett has been pivotal in driving
growth and excellence within these industry-leading companies.

At HIVIS Group, Brett leads an award winning team that has transformed the highly intelligent visual information systems sector, expanding the product range to include top-tier solar powered LED products driving change in these life saving devices on roads and water.

In his role at Hyperion Technology, Brett has led the company to the cutting edge of technological innovation, developing advanced solutions that seamlessly integrate technology with safety protocols. His leadership has ensured that Hyperion Technology is at the forefront of solutions that are Saving Lives Through Innovation.

Brett’s leadership is marked by a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. He fosters a culture of continuous improvement and ethical business practices, promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement. HIVIS were awarded multiple awards for its innovative environmental achievements.

Holding a degree in Hard Knocks in business from the government of choice, Brett combines his extensive knowledge with a passion for excellence. Outside of work, he enjoys keeping fit and his passion for adrenalin sports, and his dedication working with not for profit organisations.
