Our first NBC luncheon for 2019 was a beautiful day beside a glorious harbour view, hearing from three of our region’s LGA leaders.
Under the guidance of ABC Newcastle’s Dan Cox, our guests shared insights into their roles, achievements, plans and priorities. They talked about the changes we’ve seen in our regions over the years…what we’ve built on and what no longer fits.
David Evans – General Manager of Maitland City Council reported on the flow-on effects in the Maitland CBD since the Levee opened. With easy access to the river, it has become a hive of activity where coffee shops, retail stores and professional services abound.
“Maitland is very good at holding events,” David said. He also mentioned the Stockland Greenhills Shopping Centre as a major growth marker in the area.
Greg Kable – Acting General Manager of Port Stephens Council considered tourism to be an area of growth and continued focus and he sees the Newcastle Airport development playing a major role in that, whilst also being a facility that will boost jobs in the area significantly. Greg also provided information on the growing education industry in the region and the importance of it.
Jeremy Bath – CEO of Newcastle City Council was excited about many projects and initiatives either underway or in the planning stages. With the light rail about to be commissioned, there’s an expectation that it will service well what has become an entirely new CBD in a relatively short period of time. Jeremy was also excited at how Newcastle is attracting some serious investors, citing the sale of the Round House and subsequent plans to turn it into Newcastle’s first 5 star hotel as very positive.
These are just a few highlights from what was a very informative afternoon. I’d like to thank each of the speakers for their time, and of course Dan for keeping it rolling.
Each month members in attendance at a luncheon go in the draw to win a $50 gift voucher, donated by Westfield Kotara. The member drawn out his month was not in attendance and so the voucher rolls over to next month. The member draw for March will be for $100 of gift vouchers – another good reason to be a member and come along to our luncheons.
We will be having our second members only FREE function this year – which will be held on the 21st of March. This is an exclusive, invitation only event, where our members have the chance to network with one another. There will be more details to follow.
And now to our next luncheon.
Our topic is “The Value of Industry Partnerships”.
Our speaker Grant Walmsley, founding member of The Screaming Jets, will share how vital relationships and partnerships can create value and mutually benefit both parties. Grant has successfully blended music, education and business, and is an enthusiastic communicator. He will share principles and experiences that we can all benefit from.
I encourage you to purchase your tickets to what is sure to be an informative and entertaining luncheon.
