President's Message

What an amazing September luncheon that we just had which featured our Community Awards. We had a sellout audience once again which highlights how these awards are viewed by our members.

The amazing winners were Sarah Williams in the Youth category, the effervescent Clare Ferguson in the Individual category and Newcastle & Hunter Community Health in the Organisation category.  There were many fantastic entrants that were nominated and we thank all of the proposers for putting forward some outstanding candidates. This highlights what amazing people we have in our region.

Congratulations to the winners.

In a departure from our normal agenda, we had two keynote speakers for this event. Firstly we had Jeff Eather, Chair of the Newcastle Permanent, the Newcastle Business Club’s major sponsor. Jeff gave us an overview of the financial industry as well as an update on the Perm’s proposed merger with the Greater Bank. What an exciting proposal for the region which will create enormous benefits and opportunities having such a financial powerhouse based in our region.

Members and guests also heard from our 2021 Youth award winner Luke Connors. Luke provided us with an inspiring story of his journey from the SAS to starting with Talk2mebro. Talk2mebro hopes to create conversations about mental health issues and Luke outlined his journey in creating this amazing network for men and women to have conversations. Truly outstanding!

This magnificent event would not have been possible without the wonderful support of our sponsor The Port Of Newcastle. Glenn Thornton, Executive Manager Projects and Assets, gave us a brief overview of the Port’s activities to date. We offer our sincere thanks to Glenn and his team for continuing to support our community event.

Join us at our November Luncheon to hear from a panel of creative and inspirational local businesswomen – Jean Bas, Lindsay Otto, Michelle Ramsay, and Angela Foong.

In an ever-changing world of technology where consumers have turned to online shopping, these four local businesswomen stood firm and opened their doors to valued customers.

Hear stories of their success, resilience, and the hardships they have faced and overcome, which will lift and inspire you. Their customer service is the key.

I look forward to seeing you at our November luncheon.
