GET SOME PLAYTIME INTO YOUR DAYTIME!
Our March luncheon featured Col Law and Gus Maher who provided club members and their guests with some insights into the Visitor Economy of Newcastle.
Col Law from the tourism peak body, Newcastle Tourism Industry Group, provided us with some telling statistics about the value that the Visitor Economy could mean for Newcastle, with many exciting projects that will provide a springboard for Newcastle as a visitor destination.
New hotels, a new Japanese University, an ever-expanding University of Newcastle as well as the upgrade of the runway at Newcastle Airport, will provide the catalyst for a burgeoning visitor and tourism sector.
Building awareness of Newcastle through attracting world-class signature events is part of an ambitious Newcastle Council Destination Marketing Plan.
Events such as Surfest, which is viewed in more than 100 countries around the world, puts Newcastle on the world stage.
The Newcastle Writers Festival is one of the top three literary festivals in Australia with two out of every five of the thousands of visitors to the festival coming from outside of Newcastle.
Gus Maher from Newcastle Events also reinforced the value of signature events to the Visitor Economy of our city. Gus and his wife Louise are the brains behind April Food Month, which is a month-long food extravaganza with the signature event being Le Dîner en Blanc. Gus and Louise’s aim is to make Food Month in Newcastle the best food festival in Australia, bringing thousands of people to Newcastle to experience our food culture.
The message from both Col and Gus is that we all have a part to play in the ultimate growth of the Newcastle Visitor Economy. One tangible thing that we can all do is save visitnewcastle.com.au as a favourite in our browsers as well as including this link in our email signature.
The unmistakable fact is that the Visitor Economy is everyone’s business.
This entertaining event would not have been possible without the magnificent support of our sponsor Sarah Marco and her company UNITED HQ.
